ATOS to enable USAR:

A natural disaster can cripple a community. The response to providing relief is welcome and can be chaotic. There are multiple organizations, companies and individuals coming together to help. Managing situational awareness, location and safety can be a struggle. This is the type of mission that ATAK or Android Team Awareness Kit, is designed for.

Urban Search & Rescue teams are an integral part of a response to natural disaster specifically hurricanes. The National Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) Response System (the System), established under the authority of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in 1989, is a framework for organizing federal, state and local partner emergency response teams as integrated federal disaster response task forces. 

USAR team members have their hands in the dirt and on survivors and need to keep their attention on the mission in front of them. Putting another electronic device/smart phone with ATAK can be considered a distraction for the front line USAR team member. The best alternative is the Android Tactical Object Surveillance tag. This GPS tag is unobtrusive, about the size of a thumb and can be placed just about anywhere on people and equipment.
